THE NEW APPROACH TO REDUCE THE DISPARITY GAP
The Integrated Economic and Community Centre (I-CON@NCER) concept is a new approach to reduce the disparity gap between the rakyat living in urban and rural areas by unlocking the potential of Malay Reserve Land (MRL) and less developed areas (LDAs). This approach is in line with the Malaysia MADANI which emphasises on sustainable development and equitable distribution of wealth for all Malaysians.
Two districts have been identified as pilot projects for I-CON@NCER, comprising Baling and Yan in Kedah. I-CON@NCER is drive the rural economy that is capable of generating sustainable income for the locals, as well as creating new job and entrepreneurship opportunities while reducing out-migration.
The proposed main component for I-CON@NCER is to provide infrastructure and facilities in the selected locations. Under the NCER Strategic Development Plan (2021-2025), economic activities in established to I-CON@NCER and its surrounding areas will be based on the local potential of each respective location and will be carried out through the establishments of the following components.
