Archaeotourism Link

NCER’s archaeo tourism sites will be connected via the trans-border Archaeo Tourism Link which will provide holistic knowledge and experience to tourists. Facilities at the sites will also be enhanced to improve convenience for visitors and generate more economic activities for the rakyat in these areas.

Lenggong Valley in Perak

This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is home to a series of caves and open-air archaeological sites that can be traced back to the Palaeolithic, Neolithic and Metal Ages. The site is also famed for the discovery of “Perak Man”, Southeast Asia’s oldest, most complete human skeleton.

Sungai Batu in Lembah Bujang, Kedah

This is believed to be the site of the oldest and earliest civilisation in Southeast Asia, with iron smelting activities that can be traced back to the 8th Century BC. To date, 54 out of the 97 sites at the Lembah Bujang archaeological complex have been explored.

Guar Kepah in Pulau Pinang

This site is believed to be the only site with clear evidence of shell middens in Malaysia. Guar Kepah is also famed for the over 5,700-year-old “Penang Woman” skeleton that was discovered in 2017.
